PTI’s Omar Ayub Evades Arrest During Police Raid in Islamabad

(PTI) In a statement, the Mianwali police clarified that their assistant sub-inspector (ASI) visited a residence solely to serve bailable warrants, not to arrest the opposition leader.

The PTI leader, who went into hiding following the raid, criticized the authorities for their efforts to apprehend him. “Bailable arrest warrants were issued for me by ATC Sargodha, but Mianwali police and Islamabad police teams came to my Islamabad house to arrest me a few minutes ago,” he shared in a social media post.

“The federal government, Punjab government, and agencies must be very desperate to arrest the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly,” the PTI leader wrote on X, adding that their struggle would continue until Imran Khan returned to power.

Speaking to Dawn, PTI spokesperson Raoof Hasan revealed that Mr. Ayub’s residence was raided by personnel from Mianwali and Islamabad police.

“Some officers were in uniform while others were in plainclothes. Fortunately, the PTI secretary general was not at home,” he said, noting that Omar Ayub was in a safe location. Mr. Hasan also mentioned that the police had not obtained prior permission from the National Assembly speaker for the lawmaker’s arrest.

According to the PTI spokesperson, the raid was related to a terrorism case, with the ATC Sargodha issuing the arrest warrants. It is noteworthy that Mr. Ayub had resigned from his secretary general post last month, but the party rejected his resignation, and he continues to serve in this senior role.
