Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Announced the Solarization Tube Wells for Balochistan Farmer

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday announced that 28,000 tube wells in Balochistan will be solarised to provide farmers with cheap electricity, on behalf of the federal and provincial governments.

The solarization of agricultural tube wells in Balochistan is part of broader government efforts to address economic challenges and promote sustainable development in the region. The Prime Minister oversaw the signing of an agreement between the federal and Balochistan governments in Quetta, attended by federal ministers, the governor, the chief minister of Balochistan, and provincial cabinet members.

PM Shehbaz announced that around 28,000 agricultural tube wells in Balochistan would be shifted from electricity to solar energy, with the total project cost being Rs55 billion—70% funded by the federal government and the rest by the Balochistan government. The solarization project is expected to save around Rs90 billion annually.

In the next phase, the government plans to solarize one million agricultural tube wells across the country, saving $3.5 billion spent on imported fuel annually. Additionally, a 10% quota has been reserved for Balochistan students to receive professional training in agriculture and Information Technology in China, funded by the federal budget.

The Prime Minister expressed hope that Balochistan Governor Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, and the provincial cabinet would continue contributing to the province’s development and prosperity.

Meanwhile, Governor Mandokhail met with the Prime Minister to discuss the solarization of tube wells, party matters, and other mutual interests, expressing gratitude for the Prime Minister’s special interest in the province’s development. Both leaders agreed to strengthen the relationship between the federal and provincial governments.
