India Defeats Pakistan to Secure the 2024 World Championship of Legends Title

In a thrilling finale at the Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham, the India Champions triumphed over the Pakistan Champions by five wickets to claim the inaugural World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2024 title on Saturday.

Chasing a target of 157 runs, the Men in Blue sealed their victory in the final over. The Indian innings got off to a fiery start with openers Robin Uthappa and Ambati Rayudu attacking from the outset. However, Pakistan fought back, claiming consecutive wickets by dismissing Uthappa (10) and Suresh Raina (4).

A pivotal 60-run partnership between Rayudu and Gurkeerat Singh steadied the Indian innings. Rayudu impressed with a quickfire 50 off 30 balls, featuring five fours and two sixes, while Gurkeerat contributed 34 off 33 balls. Yusuf Pathan’s rapid 30 from 16 balls brought India closer to the target, and skipper Yuvraj Singh anchored the innings with an unbeaten 15 off 22 balls. Irfan Pathan hit the winning shot off Sohail Tanvir to clinch the victory.

Aamer Yamin was Pakistan’s standout bowler, recording figures of 2/29.

Earlier, after winning the toss and opting to bat, Pakistan posted 156/6. They lost Sharjeel Khan (12) early in the second over, but Sohaib Maqsood (21) looked promising before being bowled by Vinay Kumar. Kamran Akmal (9) and Younis Khan (7) failed to capitalise on their starts. Shoaib Malik remained steady, scoring 41 off 36 balls, but the sluggish pitch hampered his acceleration. Misbah-ul-Haq added 18 off 15 balls before being retired out, while Sohail Tanvir’s brisk 19* pushed Pakistan past the 150-mark.

Anureet Singh was India’s best bowler, taking three crucial wickets.
