CM Maryam Takes Notice of Alleged Domestic Violence Case Involving Anchor Ayesha Jahanzeb.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday addressed an alleged domestic violence incident involving anchorperson Ayesha Jahanzeb and her husband.

An FIR, accessible to Dawn.com, was lodged at Lahore’s Sarwar Road police station on Monday by Ayesha Chaudhry. The report cited Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 506-B (criminal intimidation) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The FIR detailed that Jahanzeb’s husband, Haris Ali, had a history of abusive behavior since the start of their marriage, culminating in a threat to her life last month. It was reported that on Monday, Ali returned home, physically assaulted Jahanzeb, leaving her bruised, and dragged her to the gate of their house. He allegedly pointed a gun at her and threatened to kill her, an act that prompted their two daughters to intervene.

The report further stated that Ali was eventually subdued by their driver and electrician, but he fled the scene brandishing his gun as neighbors began to gather. The FIR called for legal action against him for his severe mistreatment of Jahanzeb.

Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bokhari announced that CM Maryam had requested a detailed report on the incident from the inspector general of police and instructed that Jahanzeb receive the best medical care available.

“Women are my red line; any form of torture against domestic or working women will not be tolerated,” the chief minister declared.

PML-N MPA Hina Parvez Butt confirmed that the husband had been arrested.
