11 of a family killed as rainwater inundates house’s basement

Rescue 1122 reported a tragic incident where 11 family members were trapped in a flooded basement while they were sleeping. Among the deceased were six children, three women, and two men, all belonging to the same family. Rescue officials have moved the bodies to a nearby hospital for legal formalities.

Remarkably, a five-year-old girl was rescued from the flooded basement, according to the spokesman. The heavy rains have ended a prolonged drought in the Khyber District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Just a day earlier, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) stated that all rivers and streams in Punjab are experiencing normal water flow amid the ongoing monsoon rains. The PDMA spokesperson mentioned that the water flow in dams and barrages remains stable, with Mangla Dam at 58% capacity and Tarbela Dam at 69%. Additionally, Indian dams on the Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi rivers have water levels up to 39%.

The monsoon rain pattern is anticipated to continue until July 31, with more monsoon rains expected in most districts of Punjab over the next 24 hours, as forecasted by the PDMA.
